Adam Vilmont
Therapist /Director (LISW)
My philosophy is that human experience is individual and complex but also universal. My passion is the feeling of exhilaration we share in gaining increased awareness–that a-ha moment that hits like a lightning bolt and makes life clear.
Here at Community Centered Counseling Services, we work together to blend the science and art of therapy to help you explore your relationships, responsibilities, struggles, hopes, dreams—your life and overall sense of self. With the clarity gained from therapy, you will be better able to make choices more confidently and create that balance of rational and emotional selves that makes us feel at peace, gives us personal direction, and leads to growth.
I love working with individuals, couples, and families of all ages and circumstances, especially young and middle-aged adults seeking clarity and direction. For me, it is an honor, a privilege, and a pleasure to earn your trust in sharing this work. Let’s see what we can discover together!
Adam’s non-judgmental practice stems from his background in mindfulness studies in various wisdom traditions, traditional psychoanalytic literature, and meditative practice. He utilizes a range of therapeutic modalities blending trauma-informed neurobiology, family systems, gestalt, and psychodynamic theories to awaken one’s intuition—integrating self-awareness and the wisdom of the natural world to cultivate a healthy experience of self through personal choices.
As a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Iowa, Adam has worked on community education and legislative-policy advocacy, addressing the lifelong effects of childhood trauma. He participated in the development of the Scott County Mental Health Court system to create a more empathetic and effective approach to decrease mental health recidivism and has a wide range of experience working with children and families in clinical-therapy practice. He has served for over ten years as a Behavioral Health Specialist and BHIS supervisor, focusing on adolescent youth in intensive residential treatment facilities in Kansas and Iowa and on families in community-based settings in the Quad Cities. In his work with foster families, he has focused on the impact of trauma on personal development, as well as community and familial influences on human behavior, parental expectations, and family dynamics.
